Welcome to the Kids at the Crossroads!

Our mission for the kids at the crossroads is “to glorify God by reaching the lost children and discipling the found children.” Our vision is to reach and disciple children with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We welcome the opportunity to reach hundreds of precious children in our community with God’s truth and love. Kids at the Crossroads ministry objectives are to:

  • Develop biblically literate children
  • Partner with parents to build a bridge between church and home

Foundation verses are a part of all our Kids at the Crossroads ministries. These verses are key to meeting the goal of developing biblically literate children. In addition, resources are available to assist our parents, the primary nurturers of their children, to help children interact with Bible lessons being taught and scripture being memorized.

Kids at the Crossroads includes Lil’Kids, Kids’ Kingdom, Kids’ Zone, Kids’ Club, Generation One and VBS Kids. We invite you to learn more about these ministries by reading the highlights of each ministry:

The Lil’ Kid’s Nursery provides weekly childcare for Sunday School and the Worship Service for children from age 3 months to 3 ½ yrs old. Children who are 3 months to walking age spend their mornings in the Lambs room, a crawler-friendly environment. Children who are from walking to 2 years old spend their mornings in the active toddler-friendly Bear’s room. Our 2 to 3 ½ year olds are in our preschool-oriented Lion’s room.  We provide a loving caring environment in each of the rooms along with age appropriate Bible lessons, activities and songs for the Bears and Lions.

If you have questions or are interested in ministering to the children of Crossroads through this ministry, contact Mandy Bradford.

3mo-Walking

In our Lambs classroom, our youngest little ones are cared for in an infant- and crawler-friendly environment.  Volunteers are able to accommodate bottle-feeding and naps when needed, as there is a sleeping room within this classroom equipped with cribs and monitors.

Additionally, the Lambs room provides a private area for Nursing Mothers.

Each Lamb receives tender, loving care by our church volunteers every Sunday morning in this special room until he/she begins crawling and pulling up.

Our Bears classroom is an active room full of busy toddlers.  These little ones spend their time in free play with our volunteers and also have a Bible-based lesson taught weekly by our Nursery Ministry Team.  Their lesson involves a simple Bible story and songs.  Each child uses a Bible during this lesson and enjoys learning about Jesus.

These children complete their morning with clean-up and often a group activity (bubbles or “Ring-around-the-Rosie”).  When the active Bear turns two, he/she moves up to our Lions classroom.

Walking-2yrs

The Lions classroom, made up of 2 to 3 ½ yr. olds, is our oldest and most structured Nursery room.  Each Sunday morning, these children begin their time in free play.  Once all the children arrive and are settled in, the Lion’s volunteers and leader gather them for a welcome/circle time.

After circle time, the Lions have a Bible-based lesson given by the Nursery Ministry Team, complete with a story and songs.  Each child uses a Bible and enjoys finding Jesus there.  These lessons change each month and are reinforced by additional activities and crafts done in the classroom throughout the month.

The Lion’s complete their morning with clean-up and snack time before being picked up by parents.

When a Lion reaches 3 ½ yrs of age, he/she graduates to the Kid’s Kingdom worship ministry.

3.5-5yrs

Kids’ Kingdom meets during the sermon and includes children 3 1/2 to 5 years of age. Our goal in Kids’ Kingdom is to help these children transition easily from nursery into Kids’ Zone with age-appropriate activities and Bible lessons. Kid’s Kindgom uses the Show Me Jesus curriculum, which is rooted in the Reformed heritage and doctrine as embodied in the Westminster Standards. The children hear a Bible story and have the opportunity to complete a craft and/or activity that reinforces the Bible story. A rotation of leaders and volunteers are in place each Sunday. During the summer, the Kid’s Kingdom teachers and volunteers take a break. Guest leaders visit with the children each Sunday to view and discuss an age-appropriate Christian video series (i.e., Beginners Bible, Bible Heroes, Friends and Heroes, etc).

kindergarten-2nd Grade

This is an optional ministry which occurs during the latter half of the worship service, starting with the sermon. Kids’ Zone uses the Show Me Jesus curriculum which is rooted in the Reformed heritage and doctrine as embodied in the Westminster Standards. This curriculum teaches the Bible as a whole giving the redemption message of Christ. The biblical truth is emphasized through an interactive lesson and shepherd time. The shepherd time helps children apply the biblical truth to everyday life. There is a rotation of regular teachers and volunteers to help the children build relationships. Show Me Jesus Curriculum lessons continue from September until Memorial Day. During the summer, the Kids’ Zone teachers and volunteers take a break. Guest leaders visit with the children each Sunday where the kids use the curriculum My Volcano Adventure: Discovering the Bible’s Power.

3rd-4th Grade

This is our ministry to 3rd and 4th grade students.  They meet for their own Sunday School class which is led by Pepe Lopez and Bryan Moore.  This year, they are studying the Book of Proverbs.  In addition, they meet once-a-month during the year for a Game Night on Friday evening which includes games, snacks, and a Bible lesson.  We also take part in a few service projects each year to minister to those in need and to each our children how to have a servant’s heart.

5th-6th grade

The newest addition to the Kids at the Crossroads ministry, our 5th & 6th graders participate in Sunday School activities that focus on their relationship with God during a time of transition in their lives. Shepherds interact with this group to apply scripture to what is going on in the schools and the world. This group is also given the option to attend focused teaching on the Gospel, the meaning or communion and spiritual growth and the church. The goal of this training is to prepare your child to receive communion and be interviewed for church membership Social events are also held quarterly for fellowship and outreach. This facilitates the transition from this ministry to our Youth ministry. This ministry focuses on involvement in quarterly service projects.  This ministry is faithfully led by Vic and Wendy Verboncouer.

Pioneer Club

Pioneer Club is a national program where kids learn Christian values, grow spiritually, study, memorize and apply scripture and develop lifelong Christian friendships.  Our theme verse is Psalm 119:105  “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Crossroads is excited to offer this Wednesday night program to boys and girls 4 years old through 4th grade.  We meet at the church on Wednesdays from 6:15- 8:15 pm during the school year and end in early April.  The cost is $30/child per year which covers the book, awards and shirts/lanyards to display badges.  Groups are divided by age and consist of Scooters (age 4-5), Voyagers (1st and 2nd grade) and Pathfinders (3rd and 4th grade).  Club night consists of gym time, crafts, snack and Bible teaching and application.   If you or your child is interested in joining this exciting ministry, please contact Stacey Wiggers.

VBS

This week long, biblically-centered adventure will be held June 10-14, 2013. Children age 4 through 6th grade will experience a week of music, drama, Bible stories, scripture memorization, crafts, recreation, snacks and lots of fun while enjoying God’s beauty of the outdoors. VBS Kids is high energy and a highlight for all the kids. We always attract a lot of children and families from our surrounding community, which is one of the primary purposes of this ministry. There are numerous opportunities to volunteer in this ministry every year, so we would love to have you be part of it.
